Watson Spivey is a MS student at the University of Virginia Center for Applied Biomechanics. Prior to becoming a graduate research assistant, Watson focused on the hybridization of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science through mechatronics. His undergraduate research focused on developing an automatic heating system to prevent ice buildup on jet engine air intakes. All of this prior experience is culminating in his Masters Research, the development of a robotics gait simulator for use in the CAB for injury characterization and prevention as well as the testing of orthopedic devices. The system is comprised of an industrial Kuka robot to control tibia kinematics, and a separate nine motor tendon actuation system.
